If you’ve been raising a baby for a while, you know the drill: you research a toy carefully, buy it with high hopes… and your baby couldn’t care less. Then, out of nowhere, some toy you didn’t think twice about becomes an everyday favorite. ๐
My toddler has always been a little dancer โ the kind of baby who starts moving and grooving the second music comes on. So it’s probably no surprise that toys with sound or music were the ones she reached for again and again.
Today I’m sharing two baby music toys she genuinely played with a lot before and around her first birthday: the Pororo Mini Drum and the Pinkfong Baby Shark Instrument Set. Both became regular favorites in our home, but she enjoyed them in slightly different ways as she grew.
๐ฅ 1. Pororo Mini Drum
This was, without question, her favorite toy of the two. If I had to pick just one toy as her all-time favorite, it would be this one, no hesitation. ๐
It’s about 30 cm tall, so it’s not huge โ a good size for babies who can sit up on their own, from around 6 months old. My toddler started playing with it around 8 months old, and she’s still playing with it now.
The best part is the microphone. When you press the ON button, the mic plays back your baby’s own voice, so she loved holding it up and “singing along” or just babbling into it.
It also plays around 4โ5 children’s songs, and beyond just music, it lets her hear different instrument sounds โ drum, guitar, piano, xylophone, and trumpet.
My toddler was never the type to just sit and listen to music โ she’d immediately start swaying and dancing. Watching her hold the mic and “sing” while dancing along was ridiculously cute. ๐ฅน
Honestly, that’s the real reason I still can’t bring myself to give this toy away. It’s not just a toy anymore โ it’s become a little keepsake of her baby days.

๐ต 2. Pinkfong Baby Shark Instrument Set
The second one is the Pinkfong Baby Shark Instrument Set. It comes with a small drum, a drumstick, a tambourine, two castanets, and two maracas.
This one also got a ton of use. We bought it when she was around 6 months old, but she didn’t play with every instrument right away.
At first, the maracas were her favorite โ easy to grab and shake, and they made noise right away. As she got a little older, she started banging on the small drum with her hands.
By around her first birthday, she’d moved past having just one favorite instrument and started playing with all of them more evenly โ banging the drum, shaking the maracas, and picking up the castanets.
Watching her hold an instrument and dance along to music was just as adorable as the drum set.
It was also fun watching how she played with the same toy change as she grew.
One thing worth mentioning: the drumstick that comes with the set felt a bit thin and sharp for a baby, so we intentionally didn’t give it to her when she was younger. Instead, we just let her bang on the drum with her hands.
I only have one video of her playing with this set, but regardless of how many photos or videos I have, it was genuinely one of her most-played-with toys, so I wanted to include it here.

๐ If Your Baby Loves Music, Try Music Toys
Since my toddler has always loved swaying and dancing whenever music plays, it makes sense that she was especially drawn to toys that make sound and let her react physically.
Of the two, the Pororo Mini Drum was by far the one she loved the longest. The microphone and built-in songs made it especially fun for her, and she kept coming back to it even as she got older.
The Baby Shark Instrument Set was fun for a different reason. I loved watching her favorite instrument change as she grew โ from shaking the maracas as a young baby to playing with almost the entire set around her first birthday.
Every baby is different, of course, and what works for one baby might not work for another. But these are two toys my daughter genuinely played with a lot, so I wanted to share our experience with other parents who might be looking for music toys for their little ones.
If your baby is the type who starts bouncing, swaying, or dancing the moment music comes on, these kinds of simple musical toys might be worth trying. ๐ต
